The Epoch of Reionization (EoR) is the last phase transition in the Universe, during which the inter-galactic medium moves from being predominantly neutral to being predominantly ionized. It has long been known that the EoR provides an outstanding probe of cosmology; detecting redshifted HI 21cm emission from neutral hydrogen in the EoR is being attempted at a number of telescopes around the world, including the GMRT. Work is also being done at NCRA-TIFR on theoretical modelling of the EoR, which probes the formation of the first stars in the early Universe. Simulations of the HI 21cm emission signal from neutral hydrogen at different cosmic times are also being carried out.
