Radio Astronomy School - 2011

The National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) invites applications for an advanced Radio Astronomy School (RAS-2011) which will be held from 4th to 14th July, 2011. The RAS-2011 will consist of lectures on radio interferometric theory and techniques, with an emphasis on their application at low radio frequencies, and tutorials demonstrating the analysis of the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) data using standard software packages.

The school is aimed at doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers and faculty members in astronomy or related subjects. We will also consider applications from graduate and under-graduate students with sufficient background in radio astronomy (e.g. those who have attended the winter school in radio astronomy at NCRA). Preference will be given to those who are either already using or have a keen interest in using the GMRT for their research programmes.

How to apply:

Prospective participants in the RAS-2011 should send an email to ras@ncra.tifr.res.in by the 22nd of April 2011. The application should include your curriculum vitae and a short note stating your reasons for attending the RAS-2011.

Financial assistance for local expenses and travel within the country may be given to selected participants, if they are unable to obtain support from their parent institution. Please mention whether you will need financial support in your application. All selected candidates will be informed by April 30, 2011.

Candidates from countries outside India may also apply for the RAS-2011. However, if selected, their participation in RAS-2011 would be subject to their obtaining an Indian visa and any necessary clearances from the appropriate government authorities.
