Pulsar Observatory for Students (POS)

Pulsar Observatory for Students (POS) is an annual program to expose undergraduate students to the exciting field of Pulsar Astronomy. This year the workshop will be held during October 22 to 25, 2015 at Radio Astronomy Centre (RAC), located in the picturesque hills of Udhagamandalam (Ooty), Tamilnadu and participation is by invitation only. POS is a follow up program of Radio Astronomy Winter School (RAWSC) conducted by RPL and Astronomy Olympiad conducted by HBCSE and provides an opportunity to participants drawn from previous RAWSC to carry out live pulsar observations with a sensitive radio telescope such as Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT). POS program consists of a four-day workshop that will introduce participants to basics of radio astronomy and pulsars. The workshop will also train them to use TIFR’s 530 m long and 30 m wide ORT as well as to expose them to the future prospects and excitements in the field of pulsar studies. The second leg of the program involves four day live ORT observations of pulsars by the participants during various academic breaks in the year. A possibility exists for highly motivated students to get involved in a higher level follow up program with our faculty.

And the first slot of observation will be during December 27 - 30, 2015 and second slot of observation will be in June 24 - 27, 2016.
