Biography:
Janhavi obtained her B.Sc. (Physics Honours) degree from the Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, in 2018. She joined the Integrated Ph.D. programme at NCRA-TIFR in July 2018, completed the coursework of the programme, and is currently working with Preeti Kharb for her doctoral research.Research description:
The aim of my Ph.D. thesis is to probe the Fanaroff-Riley (FR) dichotomy and the Blazar Divide in radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs) belonging to the `complete' Palomar Green (PG) sample. We seek to examine the polarization of the AGNs at low radio frequencies to look for differences in the kpc-scale magnetic field structures between radio-loud quasars and BL Lacs. Our aim is to understand why and how jets are different between the FR sub-classes and if this difference is due to intrinsic properties related to the supermassive black hole - accretion disk systems, or due to extrinsic properties like the density of kpc-scale environments, which influence the jet-medium interaction.Selected publications:
