Biography:

Silpa Sasikumar obtained a B.Sc. (Honours) in Physics from Miranda House, University of Delhi, in 2014 and an M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Delhi in 2016. She joined the Ph.D. programme at NCRA-TIFR in August 2017, and is currently working with Preeti Kharb towards her Ph.D.

Research description:

My research aims to address the long-standing open question of the physical mechanisms driving active galactic nuclei (AGNs) outflows. The focal sample of my work is quasars, in which the drivers and impact of outflows are highly controversial. We use radio polarization-sensitive observations to understand the dominant radio emission mechanism in radio-quiet quasars. We search for "relic" radio emission from previous episodes of AGN activity which help us constrain the AGN duty cycles. We also aim to understand the impact of AGN outflows on the properties and content of the multi-phase gas inside the interstellar medium of the host galaxies using multi-wavelength observations.
