Biography:
Sushma obtained a 5-year Integrated M.Sc. in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 2014. She then joined NCRA-TIFR for her doctoral studies and is currently carrying out her doctoral research under the supervision of Jayaram N. Chengalur.

Research Description:
My main research interest is to understand the role of environment in dwarf galaxy evolution. Dwarf galaxies are expected to be more sensitive to the environment as compared to spiral galaxies due to their shallower gravitational potential. We use the fragile neutral hydrogen (HI) in and around galaxies to trace various interactions, mergers, and accretion, and to hence understand how galaxies acquire and lose their gas. We use HI 21 cm emission observations to understand the physical processes that remove gas from galaxies in clusters. We also study various galaxy properties such as angular momentum and dark matter distribution as a function of galaxy environment.
