I came into this world in the early hours of Wednesday, 8 March 1972 in Mumbai. After staying in that metropolis for seven years, I moved to Pune in 1979. There I went to school till 1990. In that year, I returned to Mumbai, to the Indian Institute of Technology, to study Metallurgical Engineering.

In 1994, I joined the Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics as a Research Scholar, where I completed my masters and doctoral theses. I got married to Sushruti in October 2000. Our son Sunandan was born on 29 September 2002.

International Experience

From July 2001 to December 2002 I was a postdoc at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris in Paris, France. From March 2003 to June 2006, I worked at the Space Telescope Science Institute as a postdoc. From July 2006 to October 2007, I worked at Princeton University as an astronomical software scientist for the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.
