Reference Texts :
L. D. Landau & E. M. Lifshitz, Pergamon Press, 1980
Notes :
My personal favourite. When it is the question of concepts, there is
no better place than to go back to Landau & Liftshitz, for any bit of
physics, even for hardened old folks of my generation and beyond. Of
course, it gets easier with age and does not look so formidable, but
there is no substitute to cutting one's teeth on this classic.
(Relevant Chapters - V5 : 1-5, 8, 11, 14; V9 : 3, 5)
R. K. Pathria, 1996, Elsevier
Notes :
The good old beginner's champion and the faithful companion forever -
one must slog through the chapters of Pathria to really learn
statistical physics.
