About Me
Welcome,
This is me

to my webpage. My name is Peter Kamphuis. I am currently a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow at NCRA-TIFR in Pune, India. However, I was born in the Netherlands. It is there that I obtained my master as well as my PhD at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute in Groningen. In my PhD thesis 'The Structure and Kinematics of Halos in Spiral Galaxies' I studied extra-planar neutral hydrogen gas. As a member of the Hydrogen Accretion in LOcal GAlaxieS (HALOGAS) Survey I still do so.

After my PhD I moved to the Astronomisches Institut der Ruhr-Universitat Bochum where I got involved with autmated tilted ring fitting of hydrogen distributions. This evolved into research on code for automated tilted ring fitting. Research which I continued at CSIRO Astronomy & Space Sciences in Australia. There I focussed, as part of the WALLABY Kinematics group, on the preparation for WALLABY. This led to the publication of the Fully Automated TiRiFiC (FAT). FAT is a IDL/GDL code that fits tilted ring models to HI data in a fully automated fashion.

Currently I a working at the National Centre for Astrophysics in Pune, India. Besides continuing all my previous work the main focus here is to setup a high resolution HI Survey of the nearest SAMI targets with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope.
