I am interested in many areas of Radio Astronomy, but generally inclined to doing projects that require new and improved instrumentation.
-
Scintillometry is the precise measurement of scintillation, and its use as a tool to probe the interstellar medium. I use pulsars and Fast Radio Bursts (FRB) as sources to study the ISM, both in the Milky Way as well as FRB host galaxies. I'm mainly interested in the dynamics of lensing structures and optical phenomenology. I work on interpreting and modelling the observed scintillation, which includes radio data analysis and simulations.

To a much smaller extent these days, I work on 21 cm Cosmology, focusing on techniques and novel obesrvational strategies to characterize the foregrounds on the largest angular scales.
-
I also work on instrumentation for VLBI, as well as validating new modes of the GMRT Wideband Backend (GWB) for enabling niche science. For example, the scintillometry benefits enormously from using Nyquist-sampled baseband data, in applications like VLBI, probing large delays and scattering broadening times and cyclic spectroscopy.

I'm happy to discuss possible research projects (both graduate school as well as Ph.D. thesis) with students. Currently I'm not accepting external students for summer projects / short projects. However, I'm happy to take students in residence for M.Sc thesis projects.
