Surajit obtained an Integrated M.Sc. degree in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology (Kanpur), in 2015. Following this, he joined NCRA-TIFR for his doctoral studies; he is currently doing his doctoral research with Divya Oberoi.

Research description:

Surajit is using low frequency (80-300 MHz) radio data from the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) to probe the solar corona and also the earth's ionosphere. He is mainly involved in developing tools for high-quality solar imaging, which are a must for studying the highly dynamic solar corona at fine spectral and temporal resolution. The number of images needed to study the sun at such high temporal and spectral resolution often crosses a million. Producing and inspecting such a large number of images manually is almost impossible. Surajit has written an end-to-end analysis pipeline to automate the above process. During imaging, the pipeline has to correct for the phase fluctuations that the electromagnetic radiation has incurred as it passed through the earth's ionosphere. Surajit is using this information about the phase fluctuations to infer the properties of the ionosphere.
