Radio sources in clusters of galaxies- Radio and X-Ray
The National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (NCRA-TIFR), Pune, India, is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to work on interplay between radio sources and their hot gas environments. The project have a strong emphasis on the data obtained from the upgraded GMRT in the radio, and archive and proprietary Chandra X-Ray data. For this project, the candidate is expected to have background in Chandra and GMRT data analysis. Prior knowledge of the physical conditions in extra-galactic radio sources, Chandra observations of the hot gas atmospheres of radio galaxies will be advantageous in the selection process.
The post-doctoral fellow selected for this position will work with Dr. Dharam V. Lal in collaboration with Prof. Ishwara-Chandra C.H. About 75% of the candidate's time is expected to be devoted on above project and the rest can used for candidate's own research activities.
Research activities at NCRA-TIFR are centered on low frequency radio astronomy, with faculty members pursuing research in diverse areas of astrophysics (see http://www.ncra.tifr.res.in). NCRA-TIFR operates two large observational facilities, the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope and the Ooty Radio Telescope.
Applications containing a curriculum vitae, a research plan, and the names and e-mail addresses of three or more referees should be sent to the Dean, NCRA-TIFR, Pune, India at the e-mail address email@example.com, by 30 April 2017.
